EEA, Germany and Unmarried Partners

Post by Wanderer » Wed Aug 05, 2009 12:47 pm

Don't ask many questions, and don't get many answers, but here goes!

Points to Consider;

1. I'm looking at a job in Hamburg.

2. My partner and I aren't married but have lived together (provable) for six years now, split by her work year abroad in guess where? Hamburg!

3. We are both free to marry but would rather not

4. She's Russian as below on PSW, like I said she's a frequent traveller to Germany visa normal Schengen and Work Permit.

I read that in Germany there is no legal status for unmarried partners, so I would imagine they'd 'do a UK' and impose the national laws over EEA Diktat. Can anyone confirm/deny? Anyone here successfully obtained the German equivalent of the UK EEA Family Permit or even know where the correct app form is?

Can we every try and apply before the event to see what happens? I have enough cash to prove self-suffiency (for now!)

Any ideas?

Not much, but >>here<< you go...

...I'm not sure if this applies to same-sex partnerships only, but maybe you will find out more and it helps.

Good luck.

I found something on freedom of movement and necessary requirement that needs to be met for self-sufficient people.

However, I could not see any of their definition of "Family Members".

There has got to be a provision for defacto relationship couple surely.

I have got to say, i find the German interpretation of the directive quite abysmal.
