Intention to live in the UK

Post by bobo77 » Fri Nov 20, 2009 3:58 pm

The intention to live in the UK on a permanent basis is quite important as British Citizenship is only granted to applicants who intend to live in the UK. However, after being naturalized, it is not legally possible to maintain such a requirement, therefore this requirement is in place only whilst an application is pending – once the application is successfully completed, the requirement no longer pertains, and one is no longer constrained to live in the UK.
I was wondering if anyone can confirm the above (in bold)

bobo77 - I assume you took the quote from here?
http://www.lawfirmuk.net/naturalization_e.html

All that's being stated is that one needs to have an intention to live in the UK when applying for naturalisation; however, once you have become a full-fledged British citizen, you are equal to any other citizen here. This implies you can move out as you wish.

What do they mean by "application is successfully completed"? At what point is it completed? Is it when the confirmation letter arrives or after the naturalisation ceremony?

Well, the words, "once the application is successfully completed" are in the original post in this thread.

Anyway, the person becomes a British citizen on attending the citizenship ceremony, taking the oath/declaration, and receiving the citizenship certificate. (It's important to note that the receiving of a letter saying that the application has been successful does not mean that the applicant has become a British citizen at that point.)
