Tourist Visa Renewal

Post by nono_yes27 » Thu Jan 26, 2006 7:02 am

My friend just got back from a a month and a half long holiday in the US. This was her first trip. She was just given a 3 month B1/ B2 visa ( 1st application) by the Embassy.

During the latter part of her holiday in the states, she got an infection in her arm that required a minor operation. This minor operation ran up a bill of $1600. She did not pay for the $ 1600 though. She was just asked to sign some forms ( she does not recall anymore what these forms were) and she was free to go.

Her concern is, when she rapplies for a renewal of her tourist visa, will this pose as a problem? What is deemed as a public charge? Has she violated any terms of her visa?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Without knowing the forms filled out then no one IMHO can really give a conclusive answer. Such information may reveal if there are any issues around fraud/Crime Involving Moral Turpitude (CIMT) for which the Immigration Act applies indamissibility. From 1st impressions though it doesn't seem to be the case. However that the person was granted a relatively short validity visa means the consular officer was already minded that ties to her home country were not excactly very strong. It may be risky going for a second application unless her ties become more compelling.

Thank you for your reply.

In addition, my friend was granted a 3-month visa on the basis of her husband's ( he is a band member who had 2 month tour in the states) visa. She has existing compelling ties ( daughter, job, funds in the bank). As to the forms, she recalls just filling up her name and all the addresses where she stayed ( home country and hotels in all other states).

I'm not sure if this info will be of any help, but thanks again!
