TRANSFER OF RESIDENCE CARD

Hi,

I had received a new passport and my residence card is on my old passport.

In UKBA page, it says that if you want to transfer you residence card to your new passport you need to make a new application.

Does the processing take the same time for transfer applications as well? 6 month or so?

And any hope for 1 day premium service in the near future?

And my other question is, when you transfer your residence card and get a new one to the new passport, does it effect the 5 year qualifying period? It starts from when for married couples?

This in no way counts as valid advice, but I'd just take both passports around with me unless there is a premium route to do it by. Does anyone know if there is anything wrong with just stapling the two passports together? Hopefully, someone on here will have some helpful information for you

Yes. Just carry both passports. UKBA will stamp your new passport and write "VIPP" above the stamp (Visa in previous passport) -- even though it's not a 'visa'...

Never, ever staple a passport. It will void it and you'll find yourself in a heap of trouble.

Lol, ok. I stapled my 2nd and 3rd passports together after I got my 3rd... guess I was sold on the look and thought it was normal after a while.... wrong

Indeed, the expiry of a passport does not make the Residence Card inside it invalid. Just carry both passports with you when travelling. There is also no effect whatsoever on your eligibility for Permanent Residence after five years.

By the way, UK Immigration Officers should not stamp the passport of an RC holder when crossing the border (neither in nor out of the UK)

True. Nor should we have to fill out a landing card. But I have travelled in and out of the UK about 40 times in the past 5 years, and had a stamp+needed landing card 39 times. 2.75% score - HO fails. lol
