Travel to the UK with a non-EU partner (married)

Post by Jotaro » Thu Feb 11, 2010 8:03 pm

Hi everybody,
this is my first post there, but I follow this forum since the last year.

So I'm italian and my wife from non-EU country, we get married in November 2009 in Italy, and we're planning to move in the UK, but today I got a reply from the British consulate in Italy and they said she need a visa to go in the UK.

Sound strange for me.....at beginning we want to go for a while, maybe a week no more, and then apply for the EEA FP for her....right?

I knew the partner of an EU citizen no need a visa for a short stay in the UK, is that right? or something has changed?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

WRONG! She best to apply for an EEA Family Permit from the British Consulate over there, before proceeding to the UK. (If she is a national of a visa required country).
Technically, they would eventually let her in without a visa, providing you can prove your relationship (ie. marriage cert). But this is an inconvenient way of doing things, as you may spend quite a while with the immigration officer.
It is free, and should be issued as a matter of priority.
Get the EEA FP for a smooth stress free journey!
