Post by magsi23 » Tue Jun 19, 2007 6:57 pm

Hi All

I am wondering if i get the tourist schengen visa from Italian embassy and instead of traveling to Italy i enter france for toursim would there be any problem? would they ask me why i did not go to italy?

some of you might ask why am i doing this, well the obvious reason is, takes too long to wait for appointment for french visa

Your post is similar to this one.

Again, there is absolutely no legal reason stopping you from using an Italian schengen visa to enter France and you will not be questioned at the border as to why you are using an Italian schengen visa. The visa is valid for entry to all schengen countries.

However, I would give the same advice as I did in the post mentioned above. If you have a multiple-entry Italian schengen visa ensure that you actually do go to Italy at least once before the visa expires. If you require another Italian schengen visa in the future and the embassy sees that you did not use the previous one to go to Italy they will more than likely refuse to give you another one and may in fact even blacklist you.

Unfortunately if they are suspicous the burden of proof will be on YOU to prove that you were there, not for them to prove that you were not.

If you told them you went by road, then they will ask to see bank statements showing that you used your debit card in Italy.

Are you perchance going to the south of France? If you are, you can fly to Genoa then go westwards to France by train. There's a train from Genoa to Nice and you can change there for trains to Aix en Provence, Avignon etc (you may have to go to Marseilles first then change)
