Travelling abroad

Post by juliajules1979 » Thu Aug 06, 2009 11:33 pm

Hiya

My husband is from Iran and is living in the UK on a spousal visa. I am a British citizen. I read on this site that if we wish to travel within Europe, my husband needs to get a schegen visa. However I was speaking to a lady from Belarus who is in the UK on a spousal visa her husband is from Latvia. They travelled from the UK in a car through all of the countries until they reached Belarus. She told me that the law has changed and that a visa is no longer required. The one stipulation is that the spouse visa holder must be accompanied by their partner and then no visa is required for travel to countries in Europe.

Could somebody give me some advice and let me know if this information is correct.

Thank you very much.

According to the French embassy website, your husband still requires a Schengen visa.

"...still require visas to travel to France. It’s also the case for the spouses of British citizens as their residence permit does not bear the endorsment " family member of EEA national" as required by the art 10 of the European Council/Parliament Directive 2004/38 CE.

Also, please stick to one thread when you are asking a related question. The French embassy website has links to which countries are Schengen states and those your husband can visit on a Schengen visa.
