Travelling alone on EU Family Member residence card

Post by tava18 » Mon Feb 18, 2019 3:38 pm

Hi all,
I hold an EU family member residence card issued by the UK gov. It says 'EU right to reside on the back'. I am going to be travelling alone to Luxembourg (I think I have to apply for a schengen visa since i will be travelling alone) - i hold a non-eu passport.
I live in Scotland with my husband but i work remotely for a company in london. will this be a problem at border control when flying back?
also - do i need to fill out a landing card?
can i go to the EU line even when travelling witout my husband?
do they usually ask a lot of questions when you are travelling alone?
Thank you!

My husband is South African (non-EU)with the same card and travelled alone to Hungary and Netherlands.I am from Poland.
There are always questions on the border about whereabouts of your spouse and marriage certificate so please carry it with you.He has always been asked for it.
Netherlands asked him that he should have Schengen visa but they let him in and out anyway.
It seems border people are not too sure what to do with him at times.
He travelled to Poland alone too and I was already there and he has been asked for marriage cerrificate and where I was.
Nobody has ever made contact with me to ask where is my spouse travelling too etc.
I hope this helps.

Not an issue.

No. You have the right not to do it. They often make the mistake of asking me for a landing card, as the BRC looks the same as the BRP for Tier people, and I always show them the line "Family of EU" and they always say, "Oh sure, you are right, you do not need a landing card, sorry."
can i go to the EU line even when travelling witout my husband?
Depends on the airport. At Heathorw, yes, you can join the EU line with no problem. At Birmingham, don't even try, they are super aggressive and will treat you like a criminal if you join the "wrong" line. At small airports I think doesn't matter, but best thing is to just ask.

Like one or two questions, of the likes of "Where is your partner" and "how long have you been out of the UK this time"; sometimes no questions.

Also, I am an unmarried partner, they have never ever asked for a marriage certificate (which I don't have), or any othr further proof of relationship/identity. Passport and BRC is always enough.
My posts express what I believe are the facts, based on the best of my knowledge, about the topics discussed in this forum. They do not constitute immigration advice.
