Travelling before ceremony

Post by mlsha » Tue Mar 26, 2024 4:24 pm

Hi,

I applied for British citizenship almost 3 months ago and yesterday I received Home Office email saying my application is approved. It also says on the email that I should contact my local ceremony authority and I MUST attend ceremony within three months of the date of my approval email.
Since I got the approval email yesterday (March 25), I should then attend my ceremony anytime from now on until June 25.

My question is, I have already booked travel holiday on the 3rd week of April and will come back to the UK early May 2024.
Should I contact the local ceremony authority NOW and ask them to book a ceremony date around last week May or early June? OR
Should I just contact them when I come back from holiday? I’m worried if there would be available date.

Will it cause me any problem at airport immigration?

Thanks.

Until you have attended the ceremony you are still under ILR and use your BRP to prove it - you are only British after the ceremony. No issue with immigration.

Suggest you contact your council ASAP and ask to book around your hols - they may also offer private ceremonies (for a fee) if dates are difficult.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

As above.... and just to note local authorities sometimes may only have one ceremony a month unless a private paid for one.... so my advice contact them soon and arrange a suitable date. Travel is not an issue.
