Travelling from UK with a blank (non-British) passport

Post by hitalgi » Tue Jul 08, 2008 8:51 pm

Hello. I have indefinite leave to remain in the UK and hold a non-British passport and I would like to travel back to my country for a holiday this summer.

I heard that if you have a blank passport, I have to also bring along my previous passports which has stamps on it. I hold a new, blank passports without any stamps. However, the problem is, I have lost my immediately previous passport. Although I have other previous passports before the one I lost, I'm not sure if this will help. I'm not exactly sure why I need to show my past passports which says 'void' but must I show the one that I have lost? If so, what can I do in my situation?

I would appreciate anyone to help me with this problem! I am quite worried that I will not be able to go on holiday with the rest of my family..

You would need to provide proof of your returning resident status when entering the UK. If you have lost your last passport, then it's probably best to transfer your ILR to a new passport by applying for a No time limit endorsement, before departing the UK.

Vinny,

Thank you very much for your detailed reply with the links. I will certainly look into it.

But do you know if I still need to transfer my ILR status to my new passport even if I have a separate formal document from the Home Office saying that I have the status? Wouldn't it be possible to just hand that in if needs be instead of having to go through the process of putting it on my passport?

I'd really appreciate your view.

Thanks again.

PS- Another thing I forgot to add is that my new passport definitely says 'PR' status (Permanent Residency status) on it too...

Is it an UKBA's endorsement?

I'm not sure what that is, but it's officially from the Home Office. It's a document consisting of a few pages. It's got my name and the date of when it was issued with a stamp from the Home Office. Thanks.
