TRAVELLING INDIA AFTER RECEIVING CITIZENSHIP CERTIFICATE

Hi

Can i travel to India on my Indian Passport after receiving my UK citizenship certificate and before applying UK passport? If i can travel, is it going to be any problem when i apply for OCI?

Please help me giving your valuable suggestions because i have to travel India ASAP for few days.

I can only tell you what I heard from one of my friends who recently applied for the OCI . He had travelled to India with his Indian Passport after receiving the British Citizenship. Now after applying for the OCI, he had to surrender the Indian Passport [by paying a new extra charge of £90.00]. During this time, they noticed that he travelled to India after receiving the BC. He was penalised on top of the application charge [not sure of the penalty, but apparently it is ?£125 per episode of travel abroad with the Indian passport after receiving the BC].

Therefore, my advise in lieu of the clampdown by HCI London, you are asking for trouble if you travel with the Indian Passport. The rest is up to you.

Thanks saabu for your reply. Your friend, did he travel after receiving the certificate or after receiving the british passport?

As far as I know he had only his British Citizenship when he travelled. He wanted to apply for the British passport after returning from India, which he did and afterwards applied for the OCI.
