Guidance- Tier 2 Visa- TB tests for Indian Expat Living in Oman

Post by aromal » Fri Jul 26, 2019 10:49 am

Good afternoon,

I am a doctor who is waiting for my COS, and will soon apply for my Tier-2 Visa.

I was wondering if you knew a bit about the TB tests. Ive been living in Oman for about 20 years, and last visited India only for 3 months in August 2017. Oman is one of the countries exempted from TB testing, and UKVI website states "you lived for at least 6 months in a country where TB screening is not required by the UK, and you’ve been away from that country for no more than 6 months" for it.

I asked other medical personnel who have immigrated, and while some said they did not need it, others did it because they didn't want any issues.

I messaged UKVI after paying them the cost but they replied they are a non-advisory service and asked me to hire an immigration lawyer.

I am in dilemma as I've given notice to my current workplace and will have difficulty travelling back to India if the TB test is needed.

Could anyone guide me if they've had a similar experience, or where to contact to clarify this information.

Thanking you in advance.

Where are you going to make the application. From Oman or India?

If you are planning to apply from Oman. Since you have stayed only for 3 months in 2017. It has been more than 6 months you have stayed in Oman after your visit. You don't need TB test.

"Who does not need to be tested
You will not need a TB test if any of the following apply:

you’re a diplomat accredited to the UK
you’re a returning UK resident and have not been away for more than 2 years
you lived for at least 6 months in a country where TB screening is not required by the UK, and you’ve been away from that country for no more than 6 months"

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I''ll be applying from Oman and hopefully be leaving by October. I was just confused as I was finding contradicting information from people around me.
