Urgent - What if COS contract duration exceeds 3 years?

Post by complete_unknown » Wed Dec 10, 2014 11:51 pm

Hi everyone!
When my COS was assigned, my work dates were set to a maximum possilbe value (5 years minus 1 day). However, I didn't plan to apply for a 5-year visa, and neither my boss encouraged me to do so (because things change fast in the industry and you never know on which position you will end up in 5 years, even within one company), so I booked an appointment for a 3-year visa. In my paper application I ticked "No" for "Are you applying for more than three years leave?". However, I am worried that COS (or my application) could be considered as incorrect or invalid because I am applying for a 3-year visa and my COS duration is 5 years. Have you ever tried applying for Tier-2 3-year visa having a COS contract duration exceeding 3 years? How long can it take to reissue the COS if it is really important to have a matching date? And how does the process look like if company cancels my curent COS and issues a new one?
Cheers!

you are correct in assuming that there will be problem in paying for less than 3 year when cos is for more than 3 years,
the sponsor should add a note within the cos to say the end date is 3 years less 1 day

Thank you! Yes, note with correct dates is the fastest and easiest way of solving this problem. Hope it will be an effective way as well
