I would like to also mention that, the luck was in my favour.
I tried many times to get an appointment but in wane. Just the day before sending the application thr post I called and i got lucky.
I travelled to sheffield and my visa was sorted in less than 2 hours.

so the bottom line.
keep trying, you never know when everything falls into its place.

Dependant Application Fees not deducted

Post by freshtier1 » Thu Sep 03, 2009 8:06 pm

I applied [Tier 1 (General)] for myself and 2 dependants last week from London. This week Home Office has deducted fees for myself and 1 dependant. Bank says no transaction was declined. Home Office won't comment on the Application as it's too early yet. Did someone else have a similar experiece?

I have received an acknowledgement from HO but all it says is that the "Application has been received. If any document is required, the caseworker will write or call".

postgraduate doctor

Post by dupuytren » Tue Sep 08, 2009 3:35 pm

Hello all

I got my Tier 1 (General) Visa in Croydon today, applied in person and got it within 2-3 hours, everything went very smoothly and they didn't even ask me anything! I suppose my application was fairly straight forward, but I wanted to apply in person as my friend's application went rather complicated in Birmingham.

Unlike most of the others, I am applying as an INITIAL application, my previous visa was as a postgraduate doctor because I graduated from medschool in the UK and thus given limited leave to remain. My prev visa expires this time next year but since I qualify for the points I wanted to apply now and get it over and done with.

General comments:
- if u are a post graduate doctor, it's best to apply in person. In the new Tier 1 (General) Visa initial application; there is a restriction which does not allow Doctors to train in the UK. However, if you have permission to train in this country from a previous visa, you should not be given this restriction. I knew someone who applied earlier than me but she did not point this out, and at that time Tier 1 was still new so she got the restriction stamped on her visa, and had to fight with the case worker to have the restriction removed. This was in Birmingham. I had no such problem in Croydon, in fact the lady was very nice and seemed to know what she was doing. I am glad I was there as I was able to have this discussion with her after she checked all my documents, and she told me that she will ensure I have no such restriction written in my Tier 1 Visa.

- regarding bank statements, I had a bit of a headache with this for both as proof of income and maintenance. Be prepared early. That's my only advice. I did not want to risk it with printed out copies from the bank etc, I wanted originals. I bank with Natwest where I receive my money from my employer. They will produce duplicate copies for any missing statements in the post for £5 per request, it certainly looks like the original but it doesn't have the summary sheet in the front. I removed all the other summary sheets from other months except for the 1st month as proof of address (not that this is necessary, but just in case) - this was accepted.

- for maintenance, I bank with Barclays (Regular Saver), so I only have money going in there once a month, I asked the to produce a whole year's bank statement until 1st Sept, they did it for me for free. I have more than 800 in there so it was ok, but the bank statement did take ages to come. As backup, I also contacted Alliance and Leicester where I have a current account, asked them to send me 4 months worth of bank statement, each cost me £5 but worth it, these came within 1-2 days. Again, I just put statements from both banks in case one gets rejected.

- photos- dont take this for granted coz I did! the day before my appointment ie yesterday I was reading this forum and realised some ppl's applications were rejected due to photos. After reading the guidelines, I realised that the photos I wanted to bring with me were ones which I was smiling/grinning in - LOL. I had to rush off to Sainsbury's to a Photo Booth and took photos of me not smiling as per guidelines. It got printed out and there were streaks of white stuff on it, so I have to drive all the way to another Sainsbury's in a rush - this time photos were printed ok but not in a great condition, at least there were no white crappy smudges on it like the other one. It got accepted.

- if you are a graduate from Cambridge or Oxford, your Master of Arts degree is accepted for the initial applications. I didnt bring my Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery certificates as Bachelor degree = 0 points. It was also accepted for 10 points for English but I guess that was obvious. So basically I only submitted the MA certificate to them.

- if u are going to croydon and not from london like me, i booked a hotel and stayed the night before. it u can, book a 9am appointment. the queue wasnt long at all and by the time I submitted my application it was only 9.30am and went back to the hotel to chill. That Whitgift shopping place looks like a dump so I didn't want to go there. The lady told me to return at 11.30am and it was done by then, she told me my application was fine and I had to wait downstairs to pick up my passport. I didn't realise it was ready to pick up so I waited for 1 hour thinking there was a queue but people just walked to the counter and jumped queue! argh. lesson learnt, you shouldnt be polite in these situations! lol.

Ok hope that's helpful to the relevant people.

Freshtier1..

wat is ur method of payment?? becos unless it if Debit card payment.. Creditcard or by cheque takes 3-5days more than Debitcard payment which will be shown the next day..

Please put in ur time lines and type of application at this link thread, so that you can have proper idea of where ur application lies w.r.t.

My application reached the Home Office on August 17th 2009 (Monday) and I have received my passport with the stamp on September 10th 2009, so 3.5 weeks.

Also, the waiting times like on the Tier 1 General is quite useful. Over the weekend it started displaying that for the week starting 7th September they expect to be dealing with applications received on or before 17th August. The date my visa was stamped is the 8th of September, so once they look at your application, it gets done pretty quick.

Hi all,

i m writng this hoping some one could help me.
i am currently on PSW and planning to apply to HSMP next week before my 28th B day.
I hv gone thru the guidance and kindly ask someone for a second opinion on the process and documents needs to be supplied as I find it bit confusing.

my case is very straightforward...hv done UK Masters and been working full time since June 2008 todate earning 22K on average on PSW visa.

nw to get HSMP,along with application form and photos I am plaaning to submit the followinmg
1.degree certificate for masters
2.pay slips for earnings
3.three month bank statement with balance always over £800 (19/06/2009 to 19/09/2009) for maintainance
4.passport for age

IS THIS ENOUGH?

guidance says i need two proof or blah ..blah....
does this mean I need to get letter from employer to suppliment the payslip and birth certificate to suppliment the passport.

plz advice with any other things i need to consider...im applying by post as it seems chepaer.

kindly expect ur reply and sorry for the long post and thanks for reading

You may also needed one year bank statements, showing your wages being transfered in your account. These would be urs second proof of income.Guidance notes are the key for tier 1 General.Read them aloud again and again. If you have payslips then u do nt need letter from employer as both are considered from the same source.Bear in the mind if you claim 5 points for UK education then you may neeeded additional lettter from your educational institute.Otherwise just claim UK earning points which are alternate to UK education. The edge:you do nt need to provide further supporting documents for the later if you claimed points for earnings

i dont think u read the GUIDANCE clearly.. i advice u take time read the guidance 2-3times.. if u send as it is ur case is 101% rejected.. because u r not attaching ur bankstatements as 2nd proof.. i think u need to read guidance atleast 2-3times and come with quesions..
my case is very straightforward
????????????????????

I had the same experience and my documents was returned after 2 weeks. I had to submit a fresh application and make new payments via Debit Card. Home Office eventually refunded the first set of deduction after about 2 weeks.
You can send a detailed mail to Charging.Workpermits@UKBA.gsi.gov.uk ; quoting your reference number and all the applicants included in the application.

Dear tvn_ramesh,

I already tried to put in my 2 cents worth but had trouble with the board. I tried to enter the document format/text that I had used in my application so that it helps others. However, I checked later but it hasn't gotten posted. So I was wondering if there is an upper limit on the # of characters etc.,?
