The real question is, is a covering letter needed at all? Doesn't the application form give you space to explain what documents you've submitted, and even for any additional information?

Main applicant and dependant currently in UK

Post by abhijack » Fri Dec 19, 2008 3:20 pm

Is it better to write covering letters seperately for main applicant and dependant?

Or can the main applicant include details of his/her dependant details and the proof of maintanenance in his/her covering letter itself?

Any suggestions mates?

Tier1 successful - Posting information & cover letter

Post by QEF8DD » Sun Jan 25, 2009 2:42 pm

PROCESS:-

- Get a file folder from stationary shop with transparent sheets to keep original certificates/documents etc. Get one with 50-100 sheets. Should be sufficient since each sheet can be used on both sides(2 pages per sheet).Big papers like A3 size degree certificate don't have to be folded. VFS have a big folder to keep all such documents.

- One could go to VFS few times before the final application to clarify any general doubts or help with form filling so that there is enough time in hand on the submission day. But don't go by what they say blindly. I was given a wrong piece of information by them which was not in the tier1 guideline but they said they had confirmed it with BHC but for which they didn't have any written proof. Please DO NOT buy such statements. Follow only the process as mentioned in the tier1 guideline or the feedback from the BHC(if you get any) stating 'attach this email with ur application' etc.

- Keep one photocopy of all certificates/documents (Except for the VAF9 and Appendix form)
- No integra form to be filled in VFS Delhi(Don't know about other centres).

BANK STATEMENTS:-
I applied for tier1 on Monday and my bank statements were dated the saturday earlier(as latest as they could be!!) Also, since I was maintaining funds since long for this, I submitted last 5 months proof instead of the required 3.

COURIER:-
I opted for going to VFS personally to collect the documents instead of the courier option. cuz it is not the original documents which are being couriered... it is your whole life till date !! Not that the courier service(I think it is bluedart) is not reliable but unless you have some location or timing problem (documents can be collected Mon-Fri only between 6-7 PM), try to go their to collect the documents back on your own. Will save you 200 Rs., the cost of courier as well :).

ENQUIRY ONCE YOU SUBMIT DOCUMENTS:-
I opted for the sms facility (20 Rs) for alerts - was supposed to get once the documents are sent to BHC, then once they are received from BHC etc. Didnt get a single alert(no complaints, I got the visa so quickly). But the tracking option on the VFS website is very reliable (status is always correct). I came to know from that only that my PP is ready for collection. Alternatively, bangalore support of VFS can be called to enquire regarding the status.

ARRANGING DOCUMENTS:
I had only one general covering letter. Not one for each section(why increase the number of pages for the officer to go through!!).

PS: The numbers below are the order in which I arranged the pages and not the page numbers itself.

1. 'Application For Tier1(General) of Points based system '(In big & bold at centre of
page) with name, address & contact at bottom.
2. Covering Letter
3. VAF9 and Appendix forms
4. Online points based calculator print
5. Oanda exchange rate print outs of Last day of earning period and the date the bank balance was at minimum.(Mention this in the printouts with a pen)

6. BLANK page with title 'AGE PROOF' in bold at centre.
7. Attach all age proof docs

8. BLANK page with title 'QUALIFICATION' in bold at centre
9. Attach all Qulaification documents.

10. BLANK page with 'PREVIOUS EARNINGS' in bold at centre
11. Attach all attested payslips, attested bank statements, and last 3 years IT returns plus other relevant docs depending on your case.

12. BLANK page with 'ENGLISH LANGUAGE' in bold at centre
13. English language proofs like IELTS, letter from Univ. etc.

14. BLANK page with 'MAINTENANCE FUNDS' in bold at centre
15. Latest Bank statements and letter from bank conforming to all the conditions as outlined in the tier1 guidance(should have logo, name, account number, date of statement etc etc).

15. BLANK page with Title 'Additonal documents and Information' in bold at centre-

Explain any additional documents or information you are submitting here.
16. Include the additional documentation.

Instead of a Blank page with title at the centre for marking start of new section one could alternatively use a sticky note with title 'Age proof' etc. so that officer can quickly go to the section he wants to inspect).

PROBLEMS/CONFUSION:-
Yes.. I had my share of these.
1) Earnings in two countries India and UK but sal slip from India Division of company for the full month 12 month period.
What I did - Used the exchange rate on the last date of my claim period instead of taking two exchange rates(one on last day of UK earning and another on last day of Indian earnings).

2) Maintenance fund exchange rate - The guidance does not tell in detail which dates exchange rate to take in order to show minimum balance. Based on the posts in this forum, I used the exch. rate of the day the balance was the least. I showed previous 5 months balance and the minimum balance was in August (Outside the 3 month period!!). In any case, the objective of having sufficient funds was met.
(PS: I sent emails to BHC on the above two but didnt get any response even after 3-4 days. So I went ahead with my application anyway and fortunately got the visa quickly without any problem).

Covering Letter

Covering Letter -

19 January, 2009

Sub: Application for Tier 1 (General) Highly skilled worker

To,
The Assessing Officer

Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings,

I, XXXXX, wish to apply for entry clearance to work in the UK under ‘Tier 1 (General) - Highly skilled worker’ of the Points Based System (PBS).

I have claimed the following points on a self evaluation basis using the ‘Self Assessment Tool’ available on the agency website and have enclosed the printout with this application to verify the points claimed.

- 85 points in Attributes section
- 10 points for English requirement
- 10 points for maintenance funds

I have worked both in India and UK (XX Months) as an IT consultant in XXXXX. Following are the list of documents provided along with my application.

1. Age Assessment – 20 points claimed

I was born on XX-XX-XXXX, and I am 27 years of age at the time of this application.

Documents provided:
• Original Passport stating date of birth
• Notarized copy of Passport
• Original Birth Certificate

2. Qualification – 30 points claimed

I hold a XX degree in Electronics (X years) from University XXX (19XX-XXXX). Both my university and Bachelors degree is recognized by the ‘Self Assessment Tool’. In addition, I am providing the NARIC UK certificate as well to prove equivalency with UK Bachelors Degree.

Documents provided:

• Original Degree certificate (A3 size sheet - provided separately)
• Original 3 years Degree Mark sheets (provided separately)
• Original Academic reference from University.
• Original NARIC certificate

Contact Details :-

<College officiating principals address>
Phone: +91-XX
Telefax: +91-XX

3. Previous Earnings – 35 points claimed

Period claimed ->1 Jan 2008 to 31 Dec 2008 (12 Months)

I have worked in two countries during the above period while being with XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. I worked:-

a) In UK from 1 Jan 2008 to 31 July 2008
The daily allowance I received while in UK is reflected in my Indian salary slip in terms of Indian rupees. Thus, for the period 1 Jan 2008 to July 31 2008, I am claiming previous earnings based on the gross salary in my pay slip without using any uplift calculation. The online points calculator (please see attached print out) handles this automatically. (Please see earnings table below also)

b) In India from 1 Aug 2008 till 31 Dec 2008.
For India, the uplift ratio is 5.3 per the Tier1 guidance document. Hence, I am using this uplift ratio on the total of the gross salary mentioned in my pay slips for the above period (Please see earnings table below also).

The tax year in India starts from 01st April and ends in 31st March. So my latest Income Tax Return document covers the period from April-2007 to March-2008 only. As my claim period starts from Jan-2008 to Dec-2008, hence my latest Income Tax Return document covers only three months (i.e. Jan-2008 to March-2008) of my claim period. However, I have attached the IT returns for the last 3 years as additional proof.

Documents provided:

• Payslips : 12 Months Salary slips signed and stamped by employer for the period 1 Jan 2008 to 31 Dec 2008 showing gross and net salary per month.

• Personal bank statements: Signed and stamped official XXXXX Bank statements for the 12 months claimed showing net salary credited into my XXXXX Salary account number -> XXXX. Net Salary paid is highlighted on the bank statement as well as on the salary slips.

• Official tax document produced by the tax authority
- Latest ITR (Income Tax Return) which covers first 3 months of my claim period (i.e. Jan-2008 to Mar-2008)
- Income tax returns for the last three years together with copies of form 16 - As original Form – 16 were retained by Income Tax Office.

Earnings table (Jan 1 2008 – Dec 31 2008) -

Sr. No. Employer Month Country Gross (In INR) Net Salary (In INR) Payslip Bank Statement Tax Return Doc
1 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Jan-08 UK X X Yes Yes Yes
2 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Feb-08 UK X X Yes Yes Yes
3 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Mar-08 UK X X Yes Yes Yes
4 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Apr-08 UK X X Yes Yes NA
5 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. May-08 UK X X Yes Yes NA
6 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Jun-08 UK X X Yes Yes NA
7 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Jul-08 UK X X Yes Yes NA
Total X

8 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Aug-08 India X X Yes Yes NA
9 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Sep-08 India X X Yes Yes NA
10 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Oct-08 India X X Yes Yes NA
11 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Nov-08 India X X Yes Yes NA
12 XXXXX Pvt. Ltd. Dec-08 India X X Yes Yes NA
Total X

PS: I am NOT using any uplift in conversion rates for the duration I was in UK but availing it only for the period I was in India. The details can be seen from the point’s based calculator sheet attached at the beginning in which I have included the gross earnings based on the subtotals in the table above for the period
- Jan-July ’08 (UK) and
- Aug-Dec ’08 (India).

As per closing spot exchange rate on Oanda.com (http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic) on the last day of my claim period, which is 31 Dec ’08 -
1 British Pound = 71.9874 Indian Rupee (Oanda printout attached)
1 INR = 0.01389 GBP

Hence my total earnings in pounds sterling for the full period of my claim (Jan – Dec 2008) comes to GBP XXXXX (Please see points calculator summary as well).

This is in the range of earnings between £32,000 - £34,999 and as per the tier1 guidance document, I have claimed 35 points for this.

4. English Language Requirement– 10 points claimed

I have claimed 10 points under the category ‘English Language Test’. The minimum Grade required to score 10 points in English language requirement is an IELTS score of 6.5. I have scored 7.5 in this exam which I gave while in London. The result was declared on 9th April 2008.

Documents provided:

• Original IELTS Certificate/mark sheet (Total score 7.5)

5. Maintenance Funds – 10 points claimed

Documents provided:

• Bank statements on XXXXX bank letterhead covering the last 5 months immediately prior to this application. The statements are stamped and signed by the branch.
• Letter from XXXXX bank on their letterhead confirming that I have maintained a minimum balance of Rs. XXXXXX INR in the last 5 months. The account balance was at this minimum on the 25th August 2008. So I am using the Oanda exchange rate as of this day (Oanda screen attached) which is 80.55760.

Hence the minimum balance maintained by me in the last 5 months is XXXX / 80.5576 = £XXXX, which is sufficiently above the minimum requirement of £2800.

I have attached all the papers/documents in support of my application as required according to the application checklist. I would very much appreciate if you consider my application for the ‘Tier 1 (General) highly skilled worker’ and approve accordingly at the earliest.

I trust the information I have provided above is satisfactory, however if you have any questions or queries or require additional information regarding any aspect of the application, please do not hesitate to contact me on +91-XXXXX or via email (XXXXX@XX.com).

Additional Documents and Information

I am attaching some additional documents which can be referred to in case of any doubt. These are as under -

1) Notarized affidavit stating that there is slight variation in the way my name has been spelt in the birth certificate, degree certificate and passport and that they all refer to the same person, which is me.
2) Letter from my employer, XXXXX Pvt. Ltd, stating that I am a regular employee since XXX 2005.
3) Please note that the ‘Reference letter from my University’ which I have attached in the ‘Qualifications section’ also mentions that my degree was taught in English. This is additional proof for the English language requirement.
4) Secondary and Senior secondary school certificates and marksheets.
5) Original UK Work permit letter and Visa extensions I had in the past.

Hello everyone,

I am goin to apply for Tier I in April. I have a Mater's degree and also my equivalent salary of last 12 months according to http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/pointscalculator is above 20K.

So, i am optimistic in applying for the visa. But i have a query.

I earned some money as a freelance coder and trainer for a company on weekends. I have the letter from the company's HR while paying me the salary. But as it was part time, it was paid by cash.

What supporting documents do you think i should attach with it for claiming points for the said salary.

Kindly help.

thanks and regards,

FORMAT TO REQUEST URGENT PROCESSING FOR TIER 1 DEPENDENT

Post by rimjhimjain » Wed Feb 25, 2009 10:18 pm

Dear Experts,

My husband applied for Tier-1 dependent from India on 8th Jan 2009 and we have no replies from BHC Delhi till now.

He was earlier in UK on work permit. This delay is causing him to lose his job!

We are in great trouble, our family is breaking up, my husband is about to lose his job....and the BHC Delhi is not bothered to give a decent reply to our queries.

We want to request them for URGENT PROCESSING of the application stating VALID REASONS. Please tell me what format we can use and whom to send this letter to?

Looking forward to your helpful reply.

Send a cover letter - it won't hurt, and it will make things clearer for the caseworker.

Hi All,

I am planning to apply for dependant visa by end of next week. For the maintenance fund, I am showing my spouse FD account and the saving account. When I asked for the letter from the bank for the FD, they told they don’t have any specified format available with them, also I don’t have any idea about the content of the letter for the FD. So please share with the letter format for the FD from the bank.

Pls reconfirm if Fixed Deposits are acceptable as evidence

Post by mjmani » Sat Jun 20, 2009 3:30 pm

To Mr. Kandasamy,
Please reconfirm if Fixed Deposits are an acceptable evidence for funds. To my knowledge, funds has to be "liquid" i.e. available for immediate use. fixed deposits are not liquid funds. Savings account is acceptable.
Best regards,
Mani

Hi. I am in process of applying for Tier 1 within 3-4 day time (depends on the Pound rate though). I am going to take the statement from the banks:

1) 12 Months Statement from HDFC to show that my salary is being credited into HDFC Bank only.

2) 3+ Months Statement from ICICI and IDBI Bank.

My Saving in all three banks make it GBPO 2800+ in last 3 months.

Now 2 things, 1st, do we really need to provide some letter from bank that the minimum balance during last 3 months was so and so or only Statement is fine?

2nd, I am already providing 12 Months statement from HDFC bank, do I also need to provide separate 3 months statement from the same bank?

Only Payslips are fine as earning proof or we will need a letter also from HR stating the Net and Gross salary?

Please help me in this. Thanks.

Fixed Deposits are accepted if they are ready to withdraw at any time. You will need a letter from the Bank that you are having FD of Rs. xxxx and this amount is ready to withdraw at any time for your use. That's all.

I am applying tier 1 general point based visa within UK. Do I need any cover letter for that or just application form is sufficient?

Thanks,
