Tier 1 PSW for Distance learning courses from UK

Post by raviryan » Thu Dec 02, 2010 4:44 am

Hello Folks,

I am enrolled in a distance laerning program, PG Diploma from a very reputed UK University.

I have been hearing news about abolishment of Tier 1, my questions are:
1) will the Tier 1 abolishment include the Tier 1 PSW as well.

2) As a distance program graduate, will I be eligible to get the Tier 1 PSW.

Regards,
R

Are you IN the UK or not? The answer to your question depends as much as where you are as where the university you are studying through is. To apply for PSW you need to be in the UK.

As I stated earlier that I am doing a distance learning course, I am not IN UK at the moment, but I am paying the same fees as a regular resident student, is it unfair to ask for the PSW even after paying the same fees? plus I did not put any burden on the resources in UK since I was not there during the course of my studies.

I think you have to have points for "Being in the UK as Student" to be eligible for Tier 1 (Post-Study-Work) visa.

Cannot be done then. You need to have entry clearance / Tier 4 visa already in order to apply for PSW. If you are studying outside the UK without a student visa, you cannot follow PSW.

The guidance states that for initial PSW applications:
Prior entry clearance is mandatory for this route. Anyone attempting to enter into the United Kingdom through this route without entry clearance will be refused entry
Read the full guidance here.
