Maternity grant for unemployed TIER-2

Post by murillobraga » Mon Jul 30, 2018 12:35 pm

Hello guys

I've got TIER-2 visa, so does my wife, the dependent one. We have been in the UK for 2 years and now she is pregnant, baby due in mid September.

She doesn't work at the moment (she never did) because she has been studying to re-validate her medical degree in the UK.

My question is if we are entitled to have any benefit for the baby, considering our situation. As she had no employer in the UK previously, the SMP or Maternity Allowance are out of the game, right?

Regarding the "sure start maternity grant", I am slightly confused because I saw a similar post here on the website (claiming-benefits-f38/tier-2-dependent- ... 55427.html) and the moderator said that the guys were entitled to it, but he didn't make clear about the pre-requisites. In our case, we don't get any of the benefits listed on the GOV website.

So what is the correct answer for that?

Thanks!
