Skipping ILR process for dependent

Post by db666 » Wed Sep 30, 2020 7:42 pm

Hi folks,

I currently have an ILR and eligible for applying for my British passport. My wife has also completed 5 years and is now eligible for applying for her ILR.

Would it be possible for her to skip ILR if I have a British passport? If not, would it at least be possible for her to skip the 1 year wait after getting her ILR? Thanks for your help and appreciate your responses. Cheers.

No.

.
Yes, but only if you are British at that point, or have attended your ceremony, and if she meets the requirements to apply as spouse of BC based in 3 years residence.

Gotcha, she satisfies the 3 year residence rule but I just need to ensure that she applies her ILR when I'm already a BC to directly be able to apply for British passport as opposed to waiting for an year. Thanks for your help.

ILR is a prerequisite for naturalisation. Being a British citizen is a prerequisite for a British passport. She cannot apply for a British passport directly from ILR.
