Travel during switching visa

Hi, I am in the process of reapplying for a Tier 2 visa as I got a new job and changing sponsorship. However, I still have one year left on my current Tier 2 visa (with my current employer).
- When will my current visa expiry/or get suspended when I apply for the new one? (after I get the decision letter or as soon as i apply for a new one?)
- Can I still travel outside UK and come back using my current visa while I wait for the decision on the new application??

Thanks, does that mean that even if I have time left on my old visa, I cannot travel while waiting for another visa application?
