Is getting hired much easier with Tier 4 Visa / UK MA degree?

Post by ukviolet » Mon Jan 20, 2020 5:59 pm

Will having an MA degree from a UK University make employer sponsorship ANY easier? Even after my Tier 4 visa here expires and I must return to EU residence (France)

My student visa expires in 2 months... Not nearly ample time to find a job after graduation!! I envy the new applicants that will be able to remain 2 years for job search!

Any tips? The company sponsorship list is enormous to navigate.... I do not have a specialised Tech or Science background, nor do I have management experience. (I'm a mid-level designer with related work experience in US)

At the moment, it is only an advantage if you are applying in the UK.

The "post-study" provision for switching to Tier 2, whereby the sponsor does not need to run the RLMT, use a limited CoS or pay the Immigration Skills Charge, is only for people switching from Tier 4 to Tier 2 within the UK. Any Tier 2 application from outside the UK is under the normal rules, not the "post-study" rules.

I say "at the moment" because one of the proposals of the previous government's new post-Brexit immigration system is to extend the "post-study" provision for two years, for applications both inside and outside the UK. Some aspects of the proposed system may change under the current government, but you can see the current white paper:

I do not give immigration advice. I refer you to Immigration Rules, guidance, other online content and to your sponsor.

Don't waste time revising the Register of Sponsors, there are more than 30,000 companies there! And that list is not 100% reliable sometimes. Most likely more companies will be applying to get a licence this year because the new post-study permit rule (hopefully).

Keep searching online: indeed, CV library, LinkedIn, any specialised site of your field: jobs for designers, etc.

Have an ATS compliant CV.

Do a boolean search on google and other sites as well.

I would suggest you keep applying during the time remaining on your Tier 4 visa. If you return to your country, the process of getting hired for a UK employer will be more difficult.

Hope it helps!
