Post Study Work for May 2020 intake (Tier 4 General)

Post by Basharat81 » Sat Apr 25, 2020 12:51 pm

Hi All,

I am already in UK and going to start MSc from May 2020 and course end date is 15 May 2021, (MY curent visa will be expired in may 2020 that's why unable to join September start). My question is, will I be able to apply for Post Study work after completion of my degree as government announced last year to start PSW from 2021.
I am searching on internet and some post says its only for September 2020 and after intake.

Gov site haven't mentioned any thing about the start date of the course
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-a ... l-students

This says from September 2020 and after intake
https://www.study.eu/article/guide-uk-p ... -graduates

This article is saying any one finish degree in 2021

Is there any one who have any idea when post study visa will be started in 2021 e.g Jan, April or September/October

If some one have some more information on this please help me

It is for programs starting in the academic year of september 2020.

However, I'm quite curious. What kind of program starts in May?

Usually, programs start in september or january, latest february

That's because the start date of the course is not relevant, plus you are looking at a sketchy press release that has almost no detail anyway. There is a much more detailed factsheet about the government's plans for the scheme:

The UK Council for International Student Affairs published an update earlier this year, based on some dialogue with the Home Office:

This is not correct. It is the end date of the course that matters, not the start date. See all the above links which confirm this.

This recent blog post explains why there has been a misunderstanding, referring to the old news item OP read, without checking the later factsheet:

https://www.jobreadyenglish.com/the-com ... -psw-2020/

Very early announcements and articles about the scheme, including the Home Office’s own original news item, said that the first people to benefit will be those who start their courses in the 2020/21 academic year.

This was later corrected to the actual intention – it is for those completing their courses from summer 2021 onwards.

The confusion seems to have come from the Home Office’s separate message to universities – that they can now use eligibility for the Graduate scheme as one aspect of recruiting students, the next intake of which is the 2020/21 academic year.

Thanks for the correction and the update on this.
Since the OP said he/she will graduate in May 2021, does that mean he/she will be eligible?
