Student to TIER 2 VISA SWITCH

As a student with tier 4 visa who just got in the UK in September 2022, how soon can I switch to a tier 2 visa?
can i also switch if my kids do not have their student dependents visa yet

I heard you need to wait until the last three months of your studies.
