Status change on YMS visa ?

Post by yoshimac » Thu Sep 03, 2009 8:34 pm

Is it possible to change your status on a YMS visa ? i have a partner in the UK who i got my YMS visa to go and be with, this would provide us with the opportunity to build our relationship and collect proof of a two relationship so that we may satisfy the authorities when applying for a long term visa.

We need all the help we can get so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Changing Status/Route

Post by yoshimac » Fri Sep 04, 2009 6:06 am

switching into another route Not permitted. Switching into any other Points Based
System route or into visitor status is not allowed.

It says you cant change to another points based system or visitor status.

So it should be fine to do if you are changing to a Family Category Visa.

If eligible, you may switch to spouse after marriage or to unmarried partner.

I think you'd need permission to marry first - if that was your intention. They make these things complicated now. Only then can you get married and then apply to switch status.

If you want to marry in the UK and switch to spouse from YMS, you will need to apply for a Certificate of Approval for permission to marry from the Home Office. This is unless you can find an Anglican vicar (C of E)
to marry you without a COA. Many are reluctant to do so now, unless you both attend church regularly.
How long do you have left on your present 2 year visa? you're both over 21?
