unamarried partners visa

Post by Jhulley » Fri Nov 20, 2009 12:00 am

Hi there

I have a few questions about the unmarried partner visa. My partner and I are coming up to our 2 year point. (A year spent in the UK - me on a working holiday, him here for a year on a working holiday). We are planning on applying for an unmarried partner visa for me so we can return to the UK together.

My question is about supporting documents - I can't seem to find anything about needing to send in a police criminal record check or a birth certificate for myself (long or short form) I find this weird because he would have required them if we were getting his visa for Canada. Am I missing something? Or is the only document proving my "Canadian-ness" my passport?

(We have all the other documents ready - his passport, bank statements, rent agreements, bills, letters etc I just dont want to miss anything.)

My second question is regarding the ILR part that will come after 2 years in the UK. Is it considered acceptable to live together in our own home but have a mutual friend there? We are thinking of getting a 2-3 bedroom flat and having a friend stay with us to help with rent and also to help her out based on her circumstances. Would this affect our application? (or is it required to be living in your own home, without others?)

Forgot one - we want to have the biometrics done asap so we can get going, is it possible to fill out the application online/book the appointment before the official 2 year date so that the appointment occurs on or after the 2 years? Or do you have to wait for the 2 year mark before starting the online bit?

Thanks!

Jhulley.

Is one of you British or an EEA citizen?

Think one is British, one is Canadian, a year on WHM here, followed by a year in Canada on the Canadian equivalent, right?

I think the bigger issue with this is how will u both support urselves in the UK without third-party support?

And you're both over 21?

We've both got a lot of savings, he will be going back to his old job (he was there for many years before as he's a UK citizen). I've got some time left on my 4 year rule with teaching and QTS so I will be going back to the same agency I worked for before. We have letters confirming this, salary etc.

And, yes we're both over 21! (27)

And you've got good documented proof that you've been living together in a relationship 'akin to marriage' for a minimum of 24 months?

Yes, we do. Trust me, Ive spent a loooooooooooooooong time reading and rereading forums, government documents etc etc - I'm confident with our application.

I appreciate everyone checking to see if we've got all the bases covered but I was wondering if anyone can answer my questions about the: birth certificate, CRC and about the accommodation for ILR?

Thanks
