Urgent help: queries abt dependent employment

Post by mdnawy » Mon Nov 27, 2006 6:20 am

Hi All,

Need help Urgently. I have got a dependents visa for 5 years. My wife is a work permit holder, her visa is also valid for 5 years. My question is can I take employment there?
I have gone through the FAQs here and it is mentioned that a dependent can take employment. I am little confused because nothing is mentioned in my visa about employment. It is just mentioned as
visa type: visa work permit dependent
observ: No recourse to the public funds.

Does it have be explicitly mentioned in the dependents visa that there are no work restrictions? Please let me I am going to resign my present job and will be moving to UK

Regards,
Mdnawy

Please some one reply. I called the UK embassy, one person there told that with my work permit dependent visa I cannot work in UK. Is it correct ?

Pls advice

You are posting a reminder after just three hours! Do appreciate two things ... no one posting here is being paid .... we are all volunteers ... and secondly there really will not have been a lot of people looking at the Board at 6.20.am UK!

Work Permit Dependent able to work? Yes. What you were told by the embassy, is that correct? No.

In a sense a Work Permit Dependent visa is better than the visa held by the WP holder. That is, whilst the WP holder is only permitted to work for the company issued with the WP, the dependent is able to work for anyone, and change jobs, without requiring any permission.

The downside is that the dependent is, well, yes dependent upon the WP holder's situation. So if the WP holder loses their job then it might prove necessary for the whole family to leave the UK.
