just in case u cancel your ticket, u can still claim the taxes paid. If booked thru agent, ask them for refund of taxes....they usually send the request to the airline and it takes 6 weeks to process. If the agent says the ticket was non refundable, tell them that you had previously claimed taxes on cancelled ticket and tht u had called the airline and they have advised to go back to agent to process ticket.

just might save u some ££

You may be OK. Just remember that the waiting time is already 6-8 weeks for in-country application and may perhaps take longer given the likely increase in workload for the caseworkers in light of the recent rule change. What's the latest date you cancel your holiday and still be eligible for a full refund?
