Dublin appointment query

Post by liger » Wed Apr 26, 2023 3:01 pm

Hi,

The mother in-law is hoping to apply for tourist visa so we can go to the states for a week. The problem is, she doesn't speak any English. I sent an email off but only got a generic response saying that generally only the applicant can attend.

Is anyone aware of the procedure for non English speakers attending appointments for tourist visas? Either of her daughter s could attend if needed.

This is for immigrant visas, but you can try to liaise with them via this email nonetheless - https://travel.state.gov/content/travel ... ublin.html
Interpreter: Applicants may bring ONE interpreter if they do not speak English well enough to participate in an interview. If you need an interpreter, please email their details to DublinIV@state.gov at least 5 days before your scheduled interview. You should include a copy of their passport bio-page with your request.

Be aware that IV (in DublinIV@state.gov ) usually stands for immigrant visa cases, so you could try shooting a message to DublinNIV@state.gov and see if that mailbox exists.

Just to update. below is the reply I received from the Dublin Visa unit.

"Thank you for your email. The applicant should contact us directly and must provide the following 3-5 working days before the appointment (no earlier) if they wish to request permission to bring an interpreter:

Applicant's full name
The visa category of the application
The time/date of the visa appointment
The language(s) the applicant speaks
The level of applicant's English
The full name of the interpreter and their fluency in the language(s) the applicant speaks
The relationship of the interpreter to the applicant, including evidence as applicable

Please note that our staff speak a number of languages, and we are unable to approve all requests for an interpreter to accompany a visa applicant."
