US visit Visa

Hi all,
I'm asking on behalf of one of my close friends' situation who ( family of 3) applied for US visit Visa to visit her eldest sister few months back and have an appointment scheduled on 12th of July.
Now, my friend's husband is unable to accompany her neither wants to go. They have already paid and donot want to lose it. My friend wants to know if she can attend the interview alone with her 5 year old daughter? She has her file ready for the appointment and doesn't want to lose the chance as she hasn't met her sister since 4 years.
Your advice will be much appreciated.
