Very basic Germany info needed

Post by Praetorian » Tue Jul 10, 2007 10:55 am

Yeah I am a U.S. citizen who is very interested in moving to Germany, probably permanently if at all possible. I don't plan on attending school but i would obviously need to work. I understand i have to apply for a work permit once I'm there on a visitation visa i beleive?? Just wondering if anyone can offer any tips on where i begin. :)

Learn at least conversational German, u'll need it.

Have patience, the bureaucracy is phenomenal.

Check the German Embassy if u can switch visas in country, UK doesn't allow it so I guess other EU states don't.

What are you skills, work permits are difficult to obtain unless no local boy is suitable, it's the law....

You werent kidding about the bureaucracy, I've become lost in a sea of paperwork. I was under the impression that Germany had just basic worker (unskilled) visas like the U.S. does. And i see something about i have to pay to have my immigration resume' (whatever its called) reviewed, is that something i should do once I have gotten the language/everything else i have to do, in order?
