Travel to EU with Ugandan wife ?

Post by ofb1988 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 8:34 pm

Hi all.

sorry to clog the board up with this post but my head is about to burst with all the info i have been reading and i feel no wiser to what im researching.

Heres the situation -

Myself - UK born

My wife - Ugandan, currently on a 2 year visa after marriage.

She has a red and blue card with her details, a chip on the back also.

This card states type of permit - spouse/partner leave to remain and expires 23/11/2013

What i want to do is surprise her with a 2 week holiday to the EU, portugal, spain or germany most likely.

But what i dont know is if she needs to pay for a visa, if so what visa and so on.

I read if the card states shes a family member its ok but then i read this red and blue card may not be the correct card?

She has a valid ugandan passport also.

If anyone could clear this up for me id be grateful. called UKBA who didnt seem interested and were no help at all.

Based on my personal experience, you dont need to pay for any visas for other EU countries, if you are a family permit holder of an EU citizen,

And atleast for me these visas are issued the same day. Provided, you apply for them through the right channels and fullfill all requirements. I always showed my work contract, hotel / flight reservation, travel insurance and atleast 6 months bank statement. If you have all these in order you walk out with 30 or 90 days visas the same day.
