I don't understand the fuss about this news. It even reached local newspapers here in the Netherlands. It is not surprising that relatively most migration is internal EU migration and that the direction goes from 'new' to 'old' EU member states...

In 2006, 60% of foreign immigrants in the EU27 Member States were not EU27 citizens. In 17 of the 24 Member States, for which data were available, a majority of the foreign immigrants were non-EU27 citizens. The highest shares of immigrants from non-EU27 countries were registered in Slovenia (90%), Romania (86%), Portugal (84%) and the Czech Republic (83%).
In seven Member States a majority of the foreign immigrants were EU27 citizens. These Member States were Luxembourg (84%), Ireland (77%), Germany (57%), Hungary and Slovakia (both 54%), Austria (53%) and Belgium (51% in 2003).

i find it quite odd that the Most number of Non-EU citizens were found to be moving to Eastern European countries.

If you look a little bit closer you see that in most cases the immigrants come from nearby countries: Slovenia (from former Yugoslavia), Romania (Moldavia), Czech Republic (Ukraine, Solvakia). Portugal also seems to be attracting mostly Ukrainians but not surprisingly also Brazilians. But that's just percentages. Per capita and total figures suggest that not too many wanted to move to the east.

I found it strange that only 1.2 million EU citizens out of approx. 500 millions chose to live somewhere else in the EU. But that doesn't count those crossing the boarder every day to go to work and the number only accounts for those officially registered. Wonder if the actual number is actually much larger than this.

Not just that, I didnt see Nigeria either.

Am also sure its not well calculated, I guess it was just assumedly estimated cus some EU citizens works in another EU without registering after all its not compulsary for some E.G Dutch working in Sweden or French working in Spain.

Would you think, from your own experience, that the actual numbers are (much) higher?
