Changing from tourist visa to student visa

Post by amari » Wed Mar 16, 2005 10:47 am

Hello,
My name is Naomi Fein; I'm from Israel.
I'm in the process of registration into university in Ireland.
I want to know what the getting visa pressure is.

I'm arriving to Ireland in June for interviews at the universities
I've registered to, in that time I'm going to have tourist visa.
What happen if I get accepted?
What do I need to do in order to change my status to student visa?
Do I need to get back to Israel in order to do it?

Thank you

I have pasted a link to the department responsible for visas

I am not too sure but i think you will have to apply for student visa from your home country.

here is good link that should guide you thru the process

that was the asnwer i was looking for :)
i don't need to get back to israel after the interviews

"If I don't need an entry visa to enter Ireland, do I need a student visa to study?
No. If you do not require an entry visa enter Ireland (that is, if you are from a country listed in the box above- israel is listed), you do not require a student visa to study in Ireland. However, you should have all documentation relating to your studies on your person when coming through immigration. In other words, you should have your letter of offer of a place at the school, or educational institution ready for inspection at immigration."

I understood correctly, right?

That is correct. as long as you do not need a Visa to travel to Ireland in the first place. so if your country is not on the list of countries not needing a visa then you should be okay. once you get your place, you will be able to get your student visa stamped in while still in the country

Hrm..I looked at the list and it's weird...how can very poor countries like Guyana be on the list of countries that aren't required visa for Ireland?

Its not just the 'income' issue - the 'abuse' of the immigration system by a particular nationality through overstaying, asylum applications etc can result in the implementation of a visa regime. By default most nationals of countries in the Latin/ Central American region aspire to go to the US - geography makes this easier than a trip to Europe.

Makes sense. I am sure population makes difference too. Guyana is very small country.
