Schengan Visa

Post by UndercoverPrincess » Mon Nov 20, 2023 11:03 pm

Hi everyone!

Apologies if this is the wrong place. My partner recently got his BRP for the UK, stay until 2026.

We are now thinking of travelling to European countries.. Thinking of Italy and Paris..

Does he have to apply for individual visas for each country? Or is a Schengan visa better??

Usually if you apply for a visa to any of the Schengen countries, like Italy or France, it'll be Schngen by default -> you can go to other Schengen area countries.

There are EU countries who still have their national visas.
If plan is to visit multiple countries then best is to use Schengen visa. Identify where you will be visiting, where you will start from etc as such itinerary will be asked for in your application.

Thought is to do separate trips throughout the year.. so let me understand this correctly.

A Schengan visa is required? Or just apply for a solo visa for each country as and when we decide to go to that country?

Why is Schengan better? Is it like a long term visa access to multiple countries?

Most EU countries are in Schengen area.
When you get a Schengen visa from a country, you can travel around Schengen area (subject to visa conditions), no need to apply for individual one.

For example, I got my Schengen visa (issued by France) which is valid for a year - I can go to any Schengen country (Spain, Germany, Iceland, etc) with this visa (abiding by viss conditions like 90/180). It's not a guarantee of entry, of course, but as long as you have all the documents, you're okay.

Also first few Schengen visas might be for a short period of time/single visit, until you build up your visa history, so you can start now.

In short, apply for a visa to your first country of destination - if this country is in Schengen, you'll get a Schengen visa. If it lasts enough for your next trip, great, if not - rinse and repeat.
