Recent experiences in the application of the directive

Hi everyone,
i have been following this forum closely for the past year, and i have suffered first hand the problems of trying to get a visa for a non-EU citizen for tourism travel to the EU, from the UK.
I wanted to know if you have had recent experiences in travelling to Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, that you could share. My wife has had to apply for visas for belgium, france and germany in the past (in theory now belgium and germany allow visa free travel since she has the family member permit from the UK) but other posts in this thread have discussed how officals on the border not necessarily allow entry without a hassle.
Any new experiences? have officers of the german border now understand and allow entry under the principles of the directive?
to give a bit more context, i am an EU citizen, my wife is not, she has the uk permit for family members of EU citizens.

No problem entering Netherlands if your non-EU partner has a UK Residence Card endorsed in passport. Carry marriage certificate as back-up. But the immigration officers seem clued up to the EU Directive these days. I travelled only a week ago (with my husband, who is Dutch), and it was all good!

Most member states do allow visa free travel now if you want to believe their UK embassy web pages. You also need to add the Stupid to the equation.

Currently you will need a visa for Switzerland (they are not in the EEA).

Went to the Franch Embassy website. Didn't see it.
