Sweden - Spousal Permits

Post by degir » Tue Jan 19, 2010 10:12 pm

Hi,

I have received Swedish Work Permit for 2 years recently and my wife also has been granted residence permit.

My question is if my wife is eligible to work in Sweden? Does she need seperate work permit to work there or my work permit covers both of us? I'm asking this because I've been reading Swedish Migration Board website and below sentence came to my attention

"If the employment is to be for more than six months, family members can also be granted work permits."

http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/160_en.html

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Swedish work permit

1. Yes, she can work in Sweden

2. She is required to have her own work permit

Why has you wife not attempted to apply herself? It could only be a refusal if it goes bad. Also you do realise that one of the prerequisites working on the "normal" labor marked in the Nordic countries is that you speak the national language and in some very few circumstances English is sufficient. The unemployment rate in Sweden amongst foreigners is very high - more than three times higher than that of Swedes. It's so high that many Swedes are working in greater Copenhagen when coming from/living in the Swedish region of Skåne.

Anyway, good luck and why not ask the Swedish immigration board and get the answers directly from the horses mouth? They are quite efficient people those working for the authorities in the Nordic countries. http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/kontakt_en.html
