10 year old passport legislation for Schengen countries

Post by *FC* » Tue May 11, 2010 12:54 pm

Dear all,

I am an Indian citizen and been residing in the UK. My passport is valid for 20 years and it was issued in 2000.
I am a frequent traveller to the European Union/Schengen countries on Schengen visa. Due to a new legislation of the European Union, Schengen visa is not issued to passports older than 10 years.

I contacted the Indian consulate in UK and was assured that the Birmingham office will issue me with a new passport valid for 10 years. I would like to know if anyone is aware of cases where the passports were issued withoout any problems?!

Also, would be good to know experiences of people at Birmingham consulate.

Thanks! :)

Is your question about new passports being issued from the Indian consulate valid for 10 years, or are you wondering about the new Schengen rules?
