German Language requirement for spouse

Post by vivek_tailor » Sat Nov 20, 2010 5:26 pm

Dear All,

I am working in the Germany since June 2010. I have got work visa here. I guess it is highly skilled work visa. I want to invite my wife from India to Germany.

Is it really necessary to provide German language certificate for my wife?

As per the German consulate Mumbai website, it shows there are some aceptions if I have highly skilled work visa then my wife don't have to provide German language certificate. Is that right?

Please help me....

thanks,

Vivek

Hi Vivek,

the language-requirement for moving to Germany is German "A1". It is really very basic German, and it shouldn´t take a long time to obtain this certification.

There are some ways circumventing the language-requirement, but you would need to be an EU-citizen for your wife to qualify for one of them.

I don´t know about any other requirements you may have to fulfil.

Good luck,
Rgds,
Christian

Thank you replying. Yes, but my wife is from india and the German institute is only in big cities like Mumbai and Delhi which is not possible for her to go and attend course.

I have read German consulate Mumbai website. If I have highly skilled worker visa then my wife don't have to provide language certificate. I read it according to pdf file available on German consulate Mumbai website.

So I think it should be like that. Because they are only accept certificate from Geothe Institute.

If you have any other information then please let me know.

Thanks,

Vivek

Hi Vivek,

I just checked what the Consulate in Bombay (Mumbai) sais.

[quote="Consulate in Bombay"]The following applicants are exempted from this new requirement:
1) Spouses of refugees, guest scientists, visiting scholars and highly
qualified specialists holding an unlimited residence permit according to § 19
AufenthG (“Niederlassungserlaubnisâ€

Hi Vivek,

I´m just replying so you don´t wait for my answer - but unfortunately I do not know the answers to your questions.

All I can see in the law is that §18 is for "qualified" people, while §19 is for "highly qualified".

Here you can read the law:
http://www.aufenthaltstitel.de/aufenthaltsg.html#18
http://www.aufenthaltstitel.de/aufenthaltsg.html#19

I hope you´ll get an answer from a more knowledgeable person in this specific field.

Good luck!

There are one more point in the document.

"You do not wish to recide permanetly in Germany"

we still don not wish to recide permanetmly in germany. What is the meaning of above sentance and what proof I need to give for that?
You obviously have a residence permit which by nature is restricted in time. If you wanted to reside permanently I think you would have to switch to a settlement permit.

Hi,

thanks to all. this is very useful.

What I try to explain in my pervious information is that:

In the PDF file, ther is one rule:

"If you do not wish to recide permanetly in Germany then you don't have to provide German language Certificate"

You can see this file in German Consulate Mumbai website.

My question is that :

Do my wife still needs German language certificate?

Thanks,

Vivek

Hi Vivik,

I have the same question regarding German language requirements for my wife. Did your wife have to demonstrate language proficiency or training or were she exempted?

Thanks.

Dear Oscarsanchez,

Yes, my wife had to demonstrate german language proficiency. She did Level A1 german language.

But there is new visa called Blue Card for highly qualified people since august 2012.

If you have blue card then your wife don't need to pass any german language exam. this is written in the blue card laws and regulations.

So you can directly apply spouse visa.

with regards,
