Do we need to send self addressed envelop cover

Post by real13_apr » Thu Jul 19, 2007 1:24 pm

Hello All,

while sending HSMP application is it also necessary to send the self addressed cover for returning the original documents.

I couldnt find any information on this in guidance notes.

Thanks,
RA

Dear real13_apr

If you want your document & decision letter to be sent back to you by Special Delivery Mail (in the UK) you could do so by attaching pre-paid self delivery envelope in your application. Otherwise it will be sent back by First class recorded delivery.

It is onthe guidelines.

RA, to answer your specific question, the HO will pick an envelope of an appropriate size to hold your documentation from their own supply and will send it back in that envelope. Because I was worried about my degree cert being creased I sent it flat between two pieces of cardboard inside a large envelope. When it was returned to me, the degree cert was inside those same pieces of cardboard. I'm glad I sent it between cardboards or it might have gotten creased in transit.

Hope this helps.

One more thing: despite my address being very clear in my application (I typed it on the computer because I know my handwriting is not very good) the HSMP office people made typos when they sent my documents back. I got my approval letter separately because my app was approved on review. On my approval letter my address is correct, probably because it was imported into Word from the application database. The envelope containing just my documents and the initial refusal letter was addressed by hand.

If I were applying for HSMP all over again, I would include with my application a large self-addressed peel-and-stick adhesive label with my address correctly formatted for international use (country name at the bottom, etc.). I would mention in my cover letter that, to ensure my address is accurately stated on the envelope in which my documents are returned, I would be grateful if the HSMP team would apply this label to the address area of the envelope before posting my documents to me.
