EC received on Dec 4th......plan to enter in mar08

I would like some guidance. I received EC on Dec 4th, but on my application told them I plan to leave on apr 08. They stamp my passport dec 4th. I understand that if i do not leave on dec 4th 07 but apr 08 instead i will have problems applying for FLR at the end of 09. Can I ask Home Office to change the start date or do I ask for extension when I arrive in Apr 08
