Earnings verification via P60

Hi

Currently I am in UK on HSMP with my extension due in June 2008. I changed job in January 2008. Can I send bank statements and P60 and P45 as a proof of earnings. The reason I dont want to send my payslips is that they are on a small plain paper from previous employment and i dont think my previous employer will be too keen to verify them. What do u people suggest? Shall i claim salary for 12 month according to the financial year and send the forms mentioned above?
