Which country to apply from?

Post by upmanyu0110 » Fri Jun 06, 2008 9:06 am

Hi all,

A small query, I am a permanent resident in Abu Dhabi, UAE and a citizen of India. In this case where should I apply from... India or UAE. So far my research says it would not impact point calculations, please let me know if it is otherwise.

Secondly, I have not been able to get the information on the dates when application will shift to tier 1 in regions other than India ( In case i apply from UAE).

Regards,
upmanyu.

HSMP is issued for two years. However, T1 is being issued for 3 years.

T1 will be not be implement till 30th June. Hence, I hope it will be implemented in July-Aug in rest of the world.

HSMP approval letters are valid for 6 months. Hence, you can apply HSMP now from UAE and later you can decide if want to apply for Entry Clearance immediately or want to wait T1 getting implemented in UAE.

Its all your choice.

Do UAE and India fall in the same income band for forex purposes? I applied for HSMP from the US as an Indian citizen w/no issues, however my income proof was in USD under the band of countries that the US fell under, not India. I guess my point is regardless of your citizenship, what's your domicile country? If you don't have strong domicile ties to UAE (salary, utility bills etc etc), I'd feel uncomfortable applying from a foreign location. Just my two cents.

PS: I just went back and re-read your post. You're saying you're a permanent resident of UAE, which almost certainly takes care of strong ties to UAE. However I still don't know if India and UAE fall under the same income band or not - you'll probably find that out as part of your research. You should be able to apply from UAE, unless rules have changed and/or your research finds otherwise. Good luck.

1. Since your country of legal residence is UAE, you should apply from UAE only. If the form asks you for it (country of legal residence), and if you mention India there, then it might amount to providing false information.

2. As you rightly mentioned, it wouldn't make any difference in point calculations. The income calculations are based on the country where you live and work, and not where you apply from. So even if you apply from India, the income band you would have to select would still be the one for UAE.
