In Person appointment. Can I pay by cheque?

Post by Edo » Wed Jun 10, 2009 6:09 pm

Due to a problem with my old bank card, I may not get a replacement before the appointment which is in the next few days. Is it possible to pay them by cheque?

based on the notes in the application form itself:

Cheques and postal orders

You must make the cheque or postal order payable to ‘Home Office’ and cross the cheque or postal order A/C Payee only. Please write the full name and date of birth of the applicant on the back of the cheque
and/or each postal order and keep the postal order receipt(s). Please make sure that the date and the amount (words and figures) are
correct and that the cheque is signed properly. Attach your cheque or postal order(s) to the front of the application form.

If applying in person at a Public Enquiry Office and paying by cheque, you must have a cheque guarantee card with a limit sufficient to
cover the amount to be paid.

Jesus, I've never seen a cheque guarantee card that covers a payment of upto £1020.

Provide more cheques and supporting guarantee cards then (I know there is space for just one cheque only, but the form says you can attach additional sheet inf need be)!! Why dont you go for POs or better cash?

for those who might be wondering what exactly it is -
Cheque guarantee card is issued by a bank to a customer. It guarantees that a cheque used with the card will be paid if the person receiving the cheque has kept to all the conditions. Most cheque guarantee cards have a £100 limit, but you may see others with £50 or £250.
