Hi

I am on a HSMP visa which runs out in May 2010, How early can i apply for an extension under Tier 1?

Hi Saurabh,

You can apply for extension anytime. The official HO guideline is to apply 28 days before visa expires, but if you wait that long you might not have enough time to appeal/re-apply if your application is refused.

Various members of the group including me, have applied around 2-3 months early and got extension successfully, so to me that looks like that best timeframe to apply in. Some people even applied 5-6 months in advance and were successful but it is not that common.

Be aware that sometimes the case-workers grant visa from the day of the application approval rather than your current visa expiry. It has so happened with some members of the forum, so be aware that this might happen if you apply too early!
