Paper hearing vs Oral hearing

Greetings!

Could anyone please tell me if a paper hearing takes longer than an oral hearing? In my case, I lodged an appeal (dependant) at Chennai BHC on 5th Jan 2010. Wrote to AIT last week and got reply that the case lies with a judge, and that they'll not be able to give a hearing date as I've opted for a paper hearing.

Anyone with similar experience? Seniors, any help/advice greatly appreciated.javascript:emoticon(':)')
