Senior level work experience

Post by yohes » Sat Dec 03, 2005 3:31 pm

I had applied for HSMP through a consultant in Dubai and he had claimed 50 points for 10 years graduate level experience including 5 years senior level experience. However HSMP team awarded me only 25 points.

I have 7 years senior level experience in the previous company and 3 years senior level experience in the company prior to that. I have got experience letters from both companies and the letters refer to my duties and responsibilities in general terms.(e.g. Responsible for managing finance and accounts issues in our Dubai office)

I have the following questions:

Is it acceptable to HSMP if I make a detailed list of my duties and responsibilities and attach it with the employers’ letters?

Or do I have to ask the previous employers to issue fresh experience letters detailing my duties and responsibilities?

In the company where I worked 7 years, the financial controller who issued the letter has now been transferred to the UK office of the same company. Is it ok if the fresh letter is in the UK office letterhead but the same company?

The company where I worked 3 years has now been closed down. There is no chance of getting a fresh letter from them. Is there any alternative?

I would be grateful if someone could answer my questions.

You can start by reading the Official Caseworker's Manual. That will give you a good idea about how points are alloted and what the case workers are looking for. Each points section comes in a seperate PDF document. Download the one on work experience.

Regarding the company that has closed down, you dont have the option of getting fresh letter. You can probably contact your line manger and ask him to give a reference letter to suppliment your experience letter. Having said that I dont know what level of credibility the case workers will attach to such a reference letter.

I sincerely thank Mwazir for his prompt response. The caseworkers manual is very informative.

As mentioned in my previous post I should be able to get a fresh detailed experience letter from my previous employer where I worked 7 years at senior level. In the other place where I worked 3 years I can not get a fresh letter but I have a letter from a client. As per the manual this is acceptable based on the discretion of the caseworker.

What do you think of my chances of getting 50 points?

That would be pure speculation because none of us have seen your level of documentation and like you said its up to the discretion of the caseworker.

Make sure you provide as much detail as possible. As you are supplying evidence of senior or specalist role, give an organogram if possible. Here is a good example of an organogram.

I am not clear on weather you plan to appeal or reapply. As you plan to send in new documents, you will have to reapply. In the case of appeal, you cannot send in any supplimentary documentation.

Good luck with your application.
