How long

Post by Mrugank » Wed Dec 14, 2005 1:09 pm

I sent my file on 5th Dec'05 and it reached Doncaster on 9th Dec'06 , but havent received any communication from their side , nor a call from credit card office asking for the permission for swiping away the fees. How long does it take , to get the referance no? 8)

Why would you expect to get such a call? You have already given written permission for your card to be used to pay the application fee.

Are you able to check whether the transaction has yet gone through the credit card account?

John,

I think in countires like India where credit card usage is probably not widespread (I stand to be corrected), the credit card company calls to verify the transaction before authorising it esp in this case where the transaction is being carried out in the UK.

I am sorry i don't mean to be rude. I will like to know if you are advising John or you are saying what you intend to do.

I don't quite agree with that.

I am sure you will want to classify Nigeria as one of such countries and each time i've had cause to use my card, nobody ever call to confirm the transaction.

Smit, thanks for that.

I am just trying to picture what is happening here. I would expect the office in the UK to have electronic means to obtain the money, using the card details supplied by the person who is applying. But won't that transaction "time out" if the card company in say India need to phone the card holder to verify if the transaction can proceed?

Those of you who have actually applied from India, did you indeed get that telephone call?

Mrugank, have you contacted your credit card company and asked them if the transaction has gone through? If so, what did they say?

John/Smit

The most common type of credit cards available in India, are not valid for use outside India and Nepal. If thats the case with OP's credit card, then the transaction will not go through and he will shortly hear from HSMP Charging Team. If its an international credit card, then another issue is that the credit limit when converted to UK Pounds is also not always substantial. This need not be the case though. Therefore a £300 transaction might very well be flagged with customer service calling to confirm the transaction. The third possibility is that everything has gone through fine. As its just been 3 working days since the application was received, it might be premature to say for sure what has happened.

I would advise Mrugank to wait a couple more days for the acknoledgment letter or to check with the credit card company for the debit.

Hi,

I used an International mastercard to pay for my first application and it was sent back with a notice saying there was a problem with the payment. I called the CC company and they said there was no incident registered and the card was ready to be used and had enough limit. So I've never found out what happened, or why it didn't get through. (I quite often use this card to pay international purchases and everything runs smoothly...). So to be on the safe side, I sent a demand draft, which worked perfectly.

If Doncaster received your application on Friday (December 9), it has been only 3 working days. The standard processing time for payment is 5 working days, and it can take 5 more to appear on HSMP system. (This info I got from an email I received from HSMP, when I asked them about the payment of my application).

I don't think you should be worrying that much right now. Give them more time to work on your app.

About the reference number, if you filled the session of the application form to be notified about the receipt of your appplication, you will receive this sheet back with your reference number, but it might take a while to reach you, something between 2-4 weeks. If you feel you CANT wait that much (lol), you can email them in a week or so asking for this number, dont forget to tell them your full name, country and date of birth.

Good Luck!
Lu.

That is good news, and all without "a call from credit card office asking for the permission for swiping away the fees"! :)

just a general info to guy

The credit card use in new ecnomy india is very much wide spread.
ie in all big cities ( banglore, delhi, mumbai, hyd, pune etc)

Most of the credit card offered are able to use internationally.

The IT market ecnomy india is around 35 billion dollar this year & understood to set achive 50 billion dollar target by 2008. Though still too small compare to the west. Lot to achive.

cool mate !!! Lets not digress from the main topic...... economy keeps raising and falling all the time....

my experience says that my credit card (citibank-visa-international) got charged the very next day it got received in doncaster. While we are on credit cards., just wanted to share a funny story....that while I was working in Bangalore just before I landed here, there were guys waiting outside Diamond District on Airport road, to catch hold of us during lunch breaks....to sell their free credit cards... just a signature would get me mind blowing credits on the cards.... and then..... first thing I did after opening a bank account here in barclays was to apply for a credit card.., and application was rejected !!! :)) .... I just flushed the apology letter and started using my debit card for payments... it suffices my daily needs.... even online shopping.....
