UK University transcript with 120 Credits acceptable?

Post by pakstar » Fri Nov 12, 2010 9:53 pm

Hello,

I am doign M.Sc in ebUsiness from Buck.ac.uk "Buckinghamshire new University" and I have completed my both semesters. Recently I received my result transcript which clearly states that I have achieved 120 Credits which is equalant to PGD.

(as 60 Credit is equal to PGC and 120 equal to PGD)

I am going to apply for Tier 1 General and wants to claim 30 points for my achieve study level from UK Univeristy. I have checked on UPDATED point based calculator, it is giving me 30 points for PGC /PGD from Buckinghamshire new university.

As I am still doing M.Sc ebusiness, can i send my Result transcript (120 Credits) to show that I have obtained PGD level of UK eduation. As its UK univeristy transcript with 120 Credits (equal to PGD?), can i claim 10 points of english language?

Do I need attaching letter from Univeristy that I have achieved 120 Credits which is equal to PostGraduate Diploma.

or

Do I need I still have to obtain a letter from UK naric?

or anyone of above?

Thanks in Advance !

The policy guidance clearly explains what documentary evidence(s) is required to claim points for qualification when the degree is yet to be awarded.

You can claim points for English language on basis of this qualification only if the PBS calculator awards you points for this qualification under the English Language section.

well if i could have understand from there, i Won't be asking in forum. So please reply to the point or just let others reply.

I am in situation where I am doing my M.Sc ebusiness from Buckinghamshire New Univeisty. I have cleared both semesters and working on my dissertation work to achieve M.Sc eBusiness degree. However I now need to send some academic qualification to obtain marks for Tier1 General.

I have transcript from Bucks New university with 120 credits as both semesters are finished and cleared. Univeristy says that they can only give me postgradute certificate or diploma if i discountinue my course (PGC or PGD from Bucks new uni gets 30 points in pointbased calc) which i really don't want to. But on the other hand I need to equvalate my current acadmeic qualificaiton.

Now can uk naric be useful here? If i send them my transcript with 120 Credits and modules I have passed in last one year, would they equalate my transcript of M.Sc course (two semesters) as atleast UK bachelor degree so I can obtain 30 points??

or i better discontinue and ask Univeristy to award me PGD or PGC which i don't want as I want to complete my M.Sc

Pleae give your opinion with reference but don't ask me to read guidence as i couldnot find the answer there.

many thanks

For NARIC to provide a letter of comparability of a given qualification, they require the applicant to submit both the qualification certificate (e.g. - degree / diploma) and also the final transcripts. For Tier 1 (General) evaluation, if your qualification is listed in the PBS calculator then you do not require a NARIC's statement of comparability.

Irrespective of absence/inclusion of NARIC's statement of comparability, the policy guidance clearly states in para 92, 93, 94 and 199 that, in absence of a degree certificate, an applicant must submit an academic reference from the awarding body (university) confirming amongst other things the title of the qualification completed and also submit academic transcripts alongwith.

This means if you cannot wait until such time that you complete your MSc and awarded the degree, you'll need an academic reference from your university stating what qualification has been awarded to you (PGD/PGC).

Now if your university tells you that they will give you an academic reference for a PGD / PGC only when you withdraw from the MSc course, then you are at their mercy. And you cannot apply with just transcripts!

This explained, please learn to ignore the response(s) that you either do not like or are unable to understand. Like you have the freedom to post, everyone has the freedom to respond. If being pointed in the right direction doesn't help or if you cannot understand something, state so - but be polite rather than carry an attitude. Appreciate the fact that people responding to a query are only trying to assist, and do so without judging the person's intelligence or questioning the person's intent or ability to help himself when shown the right direction.

On a personal note, waiting until such time that you complete your MSc course may prove advantageous in the long run, given the fact that the govt. seems to have every intention to make it more difficult for people to qualify for Tier 1 (initial or extension). So possessing a masters level qualification may help .. in the long run.

But whether you can wait that long or not may be dependant on your current immigration status. So, not sure if the suggestion is any good / helps.

Relly appriciate your reply, thanks for that.

what about this ?

To score the relevant educatiov points, the

79. academic qualification must meet, or exceed, the recognised standard of a United Kingdom bachelor’s, master’s or PhD, as verified by the National Academic Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom (UK NARIC).

Uk Naric will equvate achieved level 7 (120 Credits) to atleast bachelors degree, so I can process my Tier 1 general visa as well as I could continue my M.Sc.

Also see this

For academic qualifications, if the

87. applicant cannot find details of his/her qualification on the points based calculator, he/she may still wish to claim points for it. If so, he/she should contact UK NARIC directly for an assessment of the level of the qualification and, if UK NARIC confirms it is of the required level, obtain a letter and/or confirmation certificate from UK NARIC.

is that right?
thanks

Your must submit either one of the following, for Tier 1 application:
1. Degree certificate of a qualification, or
2. Academic reference and academic transcripts.

Without any one of the two, you cannot apply for Tier 1. Letter of comparability from NARIC can help only if your qualification (as stated in the above documents, be it PGD / PGC / MSc) is not listed in the PBS calculator.

I have academic reference (Transcript) which shows that I have obtained Level 7 120 credits. If that is varified by UK naric as eqvalent to UK Bachelors degree, thats ok then?

Academic reference and academic transcripts are two different documents, according to the policy guidance. Read para 92, 93, 94 and 199. What information these two documents must contain is also explained in the said paragraphs.

Let me go in more detail then,

Just to recap that my course is M.Sc eBusiness (Title of Award), but currently I have gained credits less than M.Sc but Above UK Bachelor Degree; which is an academic transcript with 120 credits of Level 7.

So currently, where I am standing now, what ever I have achieved till date, on my journey towards MSc Ebusiness, is equivalent to level 7. Obviously I haven't been awarded any diploma because I haven't completed my journey to the end, i.e. M Sc Ebusiness, but whatever I have achieved till date, is 120 Credits of level 7 which is equal or above UK bachelor's degree and this is what I would like to verfiy by UK NARIC.

So If i attach my Transcript along with UK naric varification would that be acceptable for HO?

Sorry for all the confusion and thanks for all your help.

You haven't been awarded any qualification at all. Until you are you are stuck.

See paragraph 94

You must have been issued with a qualification already, otherwise you cannot claim for it.

Check out Kan (Post-Study Work – degree award required) India [2009] UKAIT 00022. Whilst the case was for a PSW visa, it's similar in some respects. The determination states:
The requirement of paragraph 245Z and paragraphs 51 to 55 of Appendix A of HC 395 as amended is that in order to be entitled to points the applicant must have been awarded the requisite qualification in respect of which points are claimed. It is not sufficient to show that the qualification will be awarded. The language used in the Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) of the Points Based System – Policy Guidance in indicating what documents are required as evidence of the award, supports this view.
In this case however, the appellant actually completed her degree and was waiting for the awarding ceremony. She was NOT allowed to use it to claim points.

Bottom line is that you need an actual qualification - without it you cannot claim points. (I mean, what would you put as your qualification anyway??)
