Have I done a bad thing?

Post by xy16644 » Tue Feb 07, 2006 7:25 pm

I could really use some advice here please!

About a year and a quarter ago I applied for an Australian work visa. At the time I didn't qualify for the HSMP. Anyway this month the visa was approved and I now have it in my passport.

The problem is that I am NOW elligible for the HSMP and no longer want to make use of the Australian work visa. I have applied for the HSMP visa about a week ago as I would like to join my parents in the UK to live and work there permanently.

The $64000 question is, will they refuse to issue me the HSMP visa (if its successful) if they see that I have a valid Australian work visa in my passport??? How do I approach this?

Thanks SO much!!!

You already have your HSMP approval, and are now applying for the EC? Or are you just now applying for the HSMP approval?

If the latter, how would they see the visa in the passport?

Excuse my ignorance but what is EC?

I have sent my HSMP application in about one week ago and have not heard anything yet. The question I was asking was, what happens WHEN/IF they approve the HSMP visa and they need to put it in my passport. Will they question the valid Australian work visa I have?

Will there be any questions asked when I arrive in the UK with two work visas (one for Oz and one for UK)?

I don't plan on using the Oz visa anymore but one of the requirements for the UK work visa (HSMP) is that you want to make the UK your permanent home. I don't want the Oz visa to cause any issues or confusion.

Comments?

Xy, there is a high possibility the the ECO will say the other work visa shows you do not which to make the UK your permanent place of residence. Still give it a shot anyway, you never will know.
An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.

EC stands for Entry Clearence. After successfully applying for HSMP, you will get an HSMP approval letter which you will have to take to the immigration officer along with your passport at your local british high commission to apply for an EC to come to the UK.

I have heard of people applying for both H1 and HSMP at the same time, I should hope that the australian visa should not be a problem too. Even if you are asked about it, you could always be truthful and explain to them your intention to settle down in the UK once you qualified for HSMP.
