Tier 1 - Director employed or selfemployed

My husband is on tier 1(general) and he is applying for extension. He is an IT contractor and running his own company with 50% shareholding (rest 50%is hold by me ,wife). He is withdrawing monthly salary and dividend.
Whether he will be considered as employed or self employed?
