Tier 1 (General) application from India?

My Tier 1 (General) visa expires in Oct 2011.
I will be in India that time. Can I apply for an extension from India?
Do I have to be physically present in UK to make a reapplication?

You cannot make an application for leave to remain (e.g. - extension) from outside the UK.
